Today Kasabian released a collaboration with DJ and producer Calvin Harris, “Release The Pressure.” Harris is one of the most popular artists of modern times (20th most streamed in the world), and I think featuring an older rock band like Kasabian is a genius move. I’ll do a quick track review soon.

Kasabian are sadly a rather controversial band nowadays. Frontman Tom Meighan was sacked from the band in 2020, due to assaulting his then-fiancée. Guitarist and songwriter Serge Pizzorno has since filled in as frontman.

Kasabian have received a lot of backlash from fans for this (Meighan did go on to marry his fiancée), and many believe Pizzorno is not a strong frontman and their music has become less “rock n roll.” Serge does seem to use backing tracks while singing on stage more these days which I dislike, and isn’t a very strong singer. However, he gets the place bouncing and I like how interesting their music is. Meighan has also released solo material. Thus, I wanted to make a quick playlist showcasing their music through the years.

*current iteration of the band

The debut self-titled album by the band in 2004 immediately presented their signature sound. A blend of the grooves of The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, hard-rocking riffs and a quirky electronic angle that I think many music fans overlook with Kasabian. They are often seen as a band who make anthems for football terraces. While this is true, Pizzorno often adds a trippier vibe to their music than you would expect. This is especially evident in T.U.E (The Ultraview Effect). Thanks for reading.
